Pre-Review/Post Order:

Common Scents Boutique is owned and operated by Kristan Harnek. Kristan opened her business in 2014. At first Kristan thought she was going to be primarily a wax product company. She then realized how much fun coming up with bath and body products were and there were a wide range of bath and body products she could create and customize to meet the needs of every customer (even those with allergies). I take great pride in the name of this vendor because I helped her pick it and come up with her slogan. Common Scents, because you can never have enough. She went with boutique because of the limitless potential of the different products she could offer. She is determined to improve her products and make sure every customer enjoys their order. She values feedback so much, that she has created a form for customers to leave feedback for every order.

  • Wax Look:
    • Clean
    • Colorful
    • Some decorations, but not overly done.

  • Cold Smell:
    • Amaretto Nog -
A sweet almost floral scent. Considering how much I generally dislike florals, this one doesn’t seem too bad. It was definitely not what I expected.
    • Blonde Moment -
This scent has always reminded me of Sweet Tarts candy!
    • Cannoli -
      A sweet bakery scent.
    • Chocolate Orchid -
      A sweet floral smell.
    • Marashino Cherry -
      A sweet juicy cherry scent.
    • Oreo Cookies and Cream -
An interesting bakery scent with a chocolatey twist to it. The scent oddly has a bit of a coffee like aspect to it.
    • Superficial -
A sweet effervescent fruity scent with a juicy cherry as the predominant fruit note.
    • Root Beer Float -
      A creamy realistic Rootbeer scent.
    • Funnel Cake -
A sweet flakey pastry scent with cinnamon sugar notes.
    • Blueberry Cheesecake -
      A sweet blueberry scent.
    • Lick Me All Over -
      This scent smells like chapstick.
    • Orange Cream Vanilla -
      A creamy orange scent.
    • Pumpkin Cornbread -
      A sweet pumpkin bakery scent.
    • Smoochy Poochy -  A strong, yet somewhat creamy, citrus scent.
    • Friends with Benefits -
This scent blend reminds me of watermelon chapstick.

Wax Melting Review:
  • Detailed Description of Each Smell
    • Amaretto Nog  - A light sweet floral scent. Smells nothing like amaretto or eggnog. Despite the misleading name, it is not a bad scent. As far as floral goes, it is very pleasant.
    • Blonde Moment  - This sweet candy like scent reminds me of Sweet Tarts, the childhood candy.
    • Cannoli  - A light creamy sweet bakery scent.
    • Chocolate Orchid  - A sweet floral scent. I generally do not like florals, but I am definitely a fan of this one. It has a very relaxing effect.
    • Marashino Cherry  - A sweet & juicy cherry scent.
    • Oreo Cookies and Cream  - It smells like a creamy mocha cappuccino.
    • Superficial  - A wonderful sweet fruity scent with a subtle fizziness to it. A juicy cherry scent is the most noticeable and distinguishable fruit note in this scent.
    • Root Beer Float  - A light but still realistic Rootbeer scent.
    • Funnel Cake  - A light almost buttery flakey bakery scent with cinnamon sugar notes to round out the scent.
    • Blueberry Cheesecake  - A very pleasantly strong blueberry scent.
    • Lick Me All Over  - A faint smell that resembles chapstick.
    • Orange Cream Vanilla  - This strong creamy orange scent was throwing the moment it hit the warmer. Strongest creamy orange scent I’ve ever smelled!
    • Pumpkin Cornbread  - A nice light sweet pumpkin bakery scent.
    • Smoochy Poochy - A nice sweet citrus scent with creamy undertones.
    • Friends with Benefits - Smells like artificial watermelon chapstick.

  • Comparison to Cold Smell
    • Amaretto Nog - Similar
    • Blonde Moment  - Similar
    • Cannoli - Similar, but much nicer warmed.

Sum Up:
  • Overall Impression
    • I have known this vendor personally for over 10 years.
    • We recently had a falling out, but believe it or not, I felt that is probably the best time to do a non-biased review. The falling out was definitely not pretty. Despite at times being very angry at her, I still spoke highly of her products. Why you ask? Because to deny a wax addict an opportunity to try wax they may enjoy is simply cruel in my book.
    • At the time of the order, I was much more familiar with her bath and body products. I really do enjoy her scrubs. They are the perfect amount of scrubbiness. Don’t get me wrong, I do thoroughly enjoy a harsh abrasive scrub. This is the perfect middle ground as far as scrubs are concerned. Rough enough to exfoliate, smooth enough not to irritate, with just enough oils to leave your skin feeling refreshed but not greasy.
    • I had very limited personal melting experience with her wax when I purchased it and decided to review. I had only smelled one scent being melted during the testing phase. I was very impressed.

  • Pros
    • Strong Scents!
    • Extremely Long Lasting!
    • Quick TAT!

  • Cons
    • The wax is a bit soft and a bit messy. To give you an idea, it is soft enough to stick to a knife when cutting it. Although this wax is somewhat soft, it still easily comes out of the scent shot cup. My concern would be summer shipping. This wax will not survive shipment during summer heat.

  • Overall Liked Scents
    • Chocolate Orchid
    • Pumpkin Cornbread
    • Blueberry Cheesecake
    • Funnel Cake
    • Superficial
    • Smoochy Poochy
    • Marashino Cherry
    • Blonde Moment
    • Rootbeer Float
    • Cannoli

  • Overall Disliked Scents
    • Amaretto Nog - Just wasn’t really my type of scent.
    • Friends with Benefits - Funny thing is, I helped create this blend! Unfortunately, I have never been a big fan of watermelon scents. I find most watermelon scents artificial and therefore unappealing.
    • Lick Me All Over
    • Oreo Cookies and Cream

  • If it ends up in a destash, why?
    • N/A All wax used for review except Chocolate Orchid which is by far one of my favorites!

  • How the wax could be improved?/Was it missing something?
    • Amaretto Nog - I feel as if this scent should be renamed. It smells nothing like amaretto or eggnog. As far as florals go, this scent wasn’t bad.

  • Was it worth the money?
    • Yes!

  •  Would I purchase from this vendor again?
    • Yes

  • Cold Smell:

    • Candy Cigarettes – A strong sweet mint scent. This really does remind me of the good old fashioned candy it is named after.
    • Dr. Sticky – A very creamy scent with subtle hints of a Dr. Pepper.
    • Fluffer Nutter – A creamy peanut butter scent.
    • Lavender Martini – A nice soft floral scent with subtle citrus undertones that contribute to the slight effervescence of the scent.

Wax Melting Review:
  • Detailed Description of Each Smell
    • Brownie Batter – I am really picky about my chocolate scents. I love this one! Why? Because it smells exactly as it should. It literally smells like I am hovering over a bowl of fresh brownie batter (with the exception I am not hovering but relaxing).
    • Candy Cigarettes – A strong sweet mint that is similar to spearmint. Very similar to the candy cigarettes we thought were so cool as children.
    • Dr. Sticky – A very creamy scent, with indescribable undertones.
    • Fluffer Nutter – A light sweet creamy peanut butter scent.
    • Lavender Martini – A beautiful floral scent with subtle citrus undertones that add an interesting effervescent like note to the scent.
    • Salt Water Taffy – A nice light and almost fluffy fruity scent.
    • Sticky Lemons – A bitter sweet lemon scent.

  • Comparison to Cold Smell
    • Brownie Batter – Similar, but better warmed.
    • Candy Cigarettes - Similar
    • Dr. Sticky – Similar, but Dr. Pepper undertones are not as noticeable.
    • Fluffer Nutter – Similar, but not as strong.
    • Lavender Martini - Similar
    • Salt Water Taffy – Similar, but better warmed.
    • Sticky Lemons - Similar

  • Scent Throw:
    • Brownie Batter - 3
    • Candy Cigarettes - 5
    • Dr. Sticky - 1
    • Fluffer Nutter - 3
    • Lavender Martini - 3
    • Salt Water Taffy - 2
    • Sticky Lemons - 3

Don’t get me wrong, I do thoroughly enjoy a harsh abrasive scrub. This is the perfect middle ground as far as scrubs are concerned. Rough enough to exfoliate, smooth enough not to irritate, with just enough oils to leave your skin feeling refreshed but not greasy. I also thoroughly enjoy her whipped soap and hand sanitizer.
    • Some of this vendor’s scents can be hit or miss, but when they hit…they are amazing!

    • Brownie Batter
    • Sticky Lemons
    • Salt Water Taffy
    • Lavender Martini

  • Overall Disliked Scents
    • Fluffer Nutter – Although the scent traveled, it was more subtle than I would have liked.
    • Dr. Sticky – Just not strong enough.

  • If it ends up in a destash, why?
    • N/A All wax was used for the review.

  • How the wax could be improved?/Was it missing something?
    • Fluffer Nutter – This scent needs more peanut butter and less marshmallow because if the marshmallow is doing anything, it just dampens the peanut butter scent.
    • Dr. Sticky – This scent needs to be primarily Dr. Pepper with very little marshmallow.

  • Anything Else?:
    • If you haven’t tried this vendor, she is definitely worth the try. I prefer her bath and body products over her wax, but there are still certain scents I would order from this vendor in bulk.
