Pocket Full of Peonies (Review Completed 8/31/16!)

Vendor: Pocket Full of Peonies

Review Author: Lindsay Sara
Order Placed: July 20, 2015
Order Received: July 24, 2015

Pre-Review/Post Order:
Pocket Full of Peonies is owned and operated by Jennifer Colony. This vendor has always been a candle lover, but approximately 8 months ago began making her own wax. This vendor’s adorable wax embeds and shabby style should set her apart from other vendors.
  • Products
    • Scent Shots
    • Loaves
    • Wax Chunks
    • Wax Shapes

  • Where to Order: http://www.pocketfullofpeonies.com/

  • Availability: The vendor is still fairly new, so she has great availability. She has RTS and custom wax available to order.

  • Turn Around Time (TAT): 3 -5 business days.
  • Price: $$$

  • Cure Time: This wax uses a parasoy blend and recommends at least two weeks cure time.

  • Warmer Recommended: This vendor recommends a 20 watt hot plate or 24 watt hot plate for the best results with her wax.

  • My Order:
    • Blueberry Fruit Loops (Scent Shot)
    • Cotton Candy Cookies (Scent Shot)
    • Grandma's Pumpkin Log (Scent Shot)
    • Fruit Punch (Scent Shot)
    • Lemonade (Scent Shot)
    • Sugar Cookies (Scent Shot)
    • Starburst (Scent Shot)
    • Headshop (Scent Shot)
    • Audrey Claire (Scent Shot)

  • Extra Love Received:
    • Vanilla Pumpkin Pie (Scent Shot)

  • Picture of Order/Products

  • Wax Look:
    • Cute, Clean, & Colorful!
    • This sat outside in hot weather and arrived perfect. Even with little embeds, nothing seemed to have been affected by the heat.

  • Cold Smell:
    • Blueberry Fruit Loops – This scent strongly resembles fruit loops cereal with subtle blueberry undertones.
    • Cotton Candy Cookies – This scent intrigued me on cold sniff. Why? Because the combination of the sweet sugary cookie mixed with the cotton candy somehow created a subtle hint of mint. Overall, the bakery and scent definitely came through, but the cotton candy scent seemed to blend into something interesting. I am picky about my cotton candy scents so I can’t say I disliked it because it was so different.
    • Grandma's Pumpkin Log – A strong pumpkin scent with subtle bakery undertones.
    • Fruit Punch – Smells just like fresh fruit punch.
    • Lemonade – A sweet yet tart lemon scent.
    • Sugar Cookies – A very sweet buttery like cookie bakery scent.
    • Starburst – Probably the most realistic smelling version of the candy I’ve ever smelled. It really does smell like a pack of freshly opened pack of Starbursts.
    • Headshop – A delicate sweet perfume scent with a very subtle muskiness to it that brings the scent together very nicely.
    • Audrey Claire – A sweet almost fruity like clean scent.

Wax Melting Review:
  • Detailed Description of Each Smell
    • Blueberry Fruit Loops – A very strong fruit loops scent. It smells just like the cereal.
    • Cotton Candy Cookies – I would probably rename this scent Thin Mints. It is a sweet bakery scent but the combination comes through as a minty scent.
    • Grandma's Pumpkin Log – A nice sweet smooth pumpkin scent with subtle bakery notes.
    • Fruit Punch – A light sweet fruit punch scent.
    • Lemonade – A sweet lemon scent.
    • Sugar Cookies – This bakery scent reminds me of butter cookies. It has a sweet and fluffy aspect to it. Delicious!
    • Starburst – A light fruity scent that strongly resembles the candy it is named after.
    • Headshop – A delicate subtly sweet perfume like scent. It almost has a subtle powder like not to it.
    • Audrey Claire – A nice delicate clean scent with just the perfect amount of sweetness to bring the entire scent together. Despite the delicate nature of the scent, it seemed to have amazing power. By this I mean, it lasted long after the warmer was turned off and it didn’t really seem to fade much throughout extended melting time.

  • Comparison to Cold Smell
    • Blueberry Fruit Loops - Similar
    • Cotton Candy Cookies – Similar, but the bakery notes are more defined.
    • Grandma's Pumpkin Log – Similar, but better warmed.
    • Fruit Punch - Similar
    • Lemonade – Similar, but not as tart.
    • Sugar Cookies – Similar, but better warmed.
    • Starburst - Similar
    • Headshop – Similar, but not as intense.
    • Audrey Claire – Similar, but much better warmed.

  • Scent Throw:
    • Blueberry Fruit Loops - 4
    • Cotton Candy Cookies - 2
    • Grandma's Pumpkin Log - 2
    • Fruit Punch - 2
    • Lemonade - 3
    • Sugar Cookies - 4
    • Starburst - 5
    • Headshop - 2
    • Audrey Claire - 3

Sum Up:
  • Overall Impression
    • I predict that this vendor could be huge if she gives it the time. Her wax is superb. She definitely has earned a box in my collection.

  • Pros
    • Strong Scents!
    • Easy Availability!
    • Unique Blends and Scents!
    • Customs Available!
    • Sticky Scents (They seem to linger long after the warmer has been turned off!)

  • Cons
    • There are issues with length of scent throw consistency among some scents in stronger wattage warmers. Some seem to fade rather quickly, while others will last an unusually long time. For the longest and strongest throw, I recommend a 20 watt warmer such as a glade warmer with this vendor’s wax.

  • Overall Liked Scents
    • Sugar Cookies
    • Audrey Claire
    • Starburst
    • Grandma’s Pumpkin Log
    • Headshop
    • Fruit Punch
    • Lemonade
    • Cotton Candy Cookies

  • Overall Disliked Scents
    • Blueberry Fruit Loops

  • If it ends up in a destash, why?
    • N/A

  • How the wax could be improved?/Was it missing something?
    • I have noticed two different types of fruit loops. There is a sweet version and a spicy version. I prefer the sweet version, and noticed it is easier to blend. The blueberry is overshadowed by this particular fruit loops version.
    • I would probably rename Cotton Candy Cookies as Thin Mints, because that is what it smells like to me.

  • Was it worth the money?
    • Yes!

  •  Would I purchase from this vendor again?
    • Already did before I started this review, and I will continue to purchase for as long as this vendor continues to provide excellent quality products!

Pre-Review/Post Order:
  • My Order:
    • Sweet Potato and Vanilla Pumpkin Pie (Pie Slice)
    • Cream Cheese Frosting Glazed Donut with Blueberry Muffin Overpour (Pie Slice)

  • Extra Love Received:
    • Orange Juice Cake (Scent Shot)

  • Picture of Order/Products

  • Wax Look:
    • Once again this vendor had wax that withstood heat. It sat in my mailbox all day while I was at work, and still looked beautiful upon being opened.

  • Cold Smell:
    • Sweet Potato and Vanilla Pumpkin Pie – The perfect fall bakery scent. The pumpkin pie is the dominant scent with subtle sweet potato underneath. There is a subtle spice to the scent as well. Absolutely delicious!
    • Cream Cheese Frosting Glazed Donut with Blueberry Muffin Overpour – A beautifully sweet blueberry scent with very subtle bakery scents.

Wax Melting Review:

  • Detailed Description of Each Smell
    • Sweet Potato and Vanilla Pumpkin Pie – Absolutely amazing! This warm bakery scent combines the best aspects of pumpkin pie and sweet potato pie into one delicious scent. The two scents balance each other well with subtle spice tones to draw the scents together beautifully.
    • Cream Cheese Frosting Glazed Donut with Blueberry Muffin Overpour – A deliciously sweet blueberry scent. There is a subtle hint of tartness that naturally comes with blueberries and really makes the scent more realistic. The bakery notes are very subtle.

  • Comparison to Cold Smell
    • Sweet Potato and Vanilla Pumpkin Pie – Similar, but much better warmed.
    • Cream Cheese Frosting Glazed Donut with Blueberry Muffin Overpour – Similar, but much stronger when warmed.

  • Scent Throw:
    • Sweet Potato and Vanilla Pumpkin Pie - 3
    • Cream Cheese Frosting Glazed Donut with Blueberry Muffin Overpour  - 4

Sum Up:

  • Overall Impression
    • I predict that this vendor could be huge if she gives it the time. Her wax is superb. She definitely has earned a box in my collection.

  • Pros
    • Strong Scents!
    • Easy Availability!

    • Sweet Potato and Vanilla Pumpkin Pie
    • Cream Cheese Frosting Glazed Donut with Blueberry Muffin Overpour

  • Overall Disliked Scents
    • N/A

  • If it ends up in a destash, why?
    • N/A

  • How the wax could be improved?/Was it missing something?
    • Cream Cheese Frosting Glazed Donut with Blueberry Muffin Overpour – For this scent I recommend using slightly less blueberry fragrance oil to see if that glazed donut comes out more. The blueberry is very overpowering and despite you already using less (it is an overpour so technically there is less of it), it still manages to be the overwhelming any other aspect of the scent. It still smelled delicious, but if you can make those bakery notes come through more you could potentially need to stop people from actually trying to eat it.

  • Anything Else?:
    • I know a lot of people are scared to try new vendors. Don’t be scared of this one!

    • Rootbeer Float Vanilla Ice Cream (Cottage Melt)

  • Extra Love Received:
    • Orange Caramel Cake/Vanilla Waffle Cone (Scent Shot)

  • Wax Look:
    • Absolutely beautiful and very classy as usual!

  • Cold Smell:
    • Luck Charms – A bland subtly sweet marshmallow scent.
    • Pumpkin Milkshake – I couldn’t smell much other than creaminess to this scent.
    • Rootbeer Float Vanilla Ice Cream – A realistic creamy rootbeer scent.

Wax Melting Review:

  • Detailed Description of Each Smell
    • Luck Charms – A creamy light sweet marshmallow scent. I can see why this is a popular blender scent.
    • Pumpkin Milkshake – A creamy scent with a very subtle pumpkin.
    • Rootbeer Float Vanilla Ice Cream – A light creamy rootbeer scent.

  • Comparison to Cold Smell
    • Luck Charms – Similar, but better warmed.
    • Pumpkin Milkshake – Similar, although there is some detectable pumpkin.

    • Pumpkin Milkshake

  • If it ends up in a destash, why?
    • N/A

  • How the wax could be improved?/Was it missing something?
    • Pumpkin Milkshake – I don’t think the pumpkin scent was a strong scent on its own. In order to make a milkshake scent, you need to start with a super strong base so that it doesn’t essentially eliminate the partnering scent altogether.

    • I know a lot of people are scared to try new vendors. Don’t be scared of this one!

    • Blackberry Mint Spritzer

  • Picture of Order/Products

  • Wax Look:
    • Absolutely beautiful and very classy as usual!

  • Cold Smell:
    • Pink Sugar/Chocolate Orchid/Vanilla Bean Noel – Originally the cold smell was sweet and creamy pink sugar blend (which is like sweet floral/perfume type scent). As it cured, it developed a strange smell, somewhat leather like. The smell that remained on my hand following handling of the wax resembled the original cold smell, more than the odd leather scent that it had developed in the bag.

Wax Melting Review:

  • Detailed Description of Each Smell
    • Pink Sugar/Chocolate Orchid/Vanilla Bean Noel – A delicate perfume scent. The pink sugar and chocolate orchid complement each other very well, and are equally distinguishable. The VBN adds just the right amount of creaminess to the scent.

  • Comparison to Cold Smell
    • Pink Sugar/Chocolate Orchid/Vanilla Bean Noel – Similar to the original cold scent, very different from the cured cold scent.

  • Scent Throw:
    • Pink Sugar/Chocolate Orchid/Vanilla Bean Noel - 5
